William Moorcroft MONUMENTAL FLAMBE FISH VASE C.1930

£11000.00

A truly outstanding piece of Moorcroft, i would say quite honestly that it's the best piece i have ever owned or seen! An incredible museum quality vase that must have been a special order or made for an exhibition. The vase measures an enormous 18.5" in height, is 11" wide and 36" around it's fattest part and is decorated in the most beautiful version of Flambe Fish. It's quality is exceptional and must have taken a long time and a lot of careful work to make. Decorated with various fish and seaweed the firing is perfection which you rarely see on fish but never of this size or magnitude. There are two issues to note, one a small chip on the apex of the rim which i have pictured and an underglaze chip on the footrim which occured in manufacture. This vase actually should be in a museum and is a rare opportunity to acquire something of this quality. The 2 faults are irrelevant on something as important as this vase. Full signature to the base. The 5" by 3" Hazeldene vase next to it is there for size reference.
