Clarice Cliff 'CAFE' STAMFORD BOX C.1930

£7500.00

Cafe as it was coined is probably the number one sought after design in today's market. A rare and stunning abstract design. The design was once thought to have been taken from the famous Cafe L'aubette in Strasbourg decorated by Sophie Tauber Arp and Theo van doesburg in 1928 although i've seen images of a Rug designed by Ivan Da Silva Bruhns that is striking similar and Clarice may well have taken her inspiration from there. This rare shaped box and cover is the perfect shape for this design and really is a fantastic example. Four panels of pattern and the lid decorated to in bold clean colours. GUARANTEED to be free from damage or restoration it measures 5.5" in height, is 7" wide and 5" deep and is fully signed to the base. Will date to 1930.
